Shakti Woman’s Refuge Trust (SWRT)

SWRT is a leading national provider of culturally specialist domestic/family violence intervention and prevention services for Asian, African and Middle Eastern women victims and their children in Aotearoa New Zealand. It is approved by the Ministry of Social Development as a national organisation with branches in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin.

    • Confidential assessment and development of individual case plan according to your needs
    • Legal / Justice Advocacy Support

    • Work & Income Referral and Advocacy
    • Housing/accommodation navigation support
    • Medical support
  • Safe Housing / Refuge:  Safe and confidential accommodation if you are a woman in a situation of domestic violence, with or without children.
  • Community Risk Management (CRM) Programme
  • Referral to Shakti Community Council for Counselling and other well-being programmes
  • Referral to Shakti Community Council for Safety Programmes
  • Referral to SDETAT & Sustinnoworx for Life Skills programmes (LSP)

Setac Ltd

This entity was set up by Shakti in 2003 to function as an in-house training and development wing of Shakti. The main activities of this entity are currently related to research, delivering Best Practice Guidelines as well in-house training all year round to staff and volunteers working with the Shakti group of entities.

SDETAT: Sustainable Development Education Training & Advisory Trust

This entity was set up in 2021 with the aim of promoting sustainable development of vulnerable women and families while at the same time advocating for a sustainable environment. The brand name Sustinnoworx (Sustainable Development Works) was developed with the intent of achieving these goals. Activities include two shops, one promoting organic groceries for healthy living and the other functioning as an upcycling shop for pre-loved goods including clothing. The goal is to provide training pathways towards employment and self-reliance for vulnerable women who are managing the shops, while also reducing landfill and textile waste and promoting environmental sustainability.
